Marshall is going to the mountains near the city to breathe some fresh air and eat some healthy bugs. After a 2 hours hike he reaches the peak, night has almost come. Another rooster, standing on mountain nearby is starring at him. He looks very still, like he has been there for a very long time, and his colors are going off in many places. Marshall thinks he is very lucky to be so glossy and well preserved.
While Marshall is out at the beach, he meets a very special lady. She is wearing a pink bathrobe, a night hat, and she greets him with a deep voice. He notices her big eyes, big hands and big mouth but he refrains himself from telling her that, he doesn’t know how she might interpret his comments. They chit chat about the weather until he can’t stand the heat of the sand under his feet anymore. He says politely goodbye and go back home.
This morning Marshall feels like his head is full of cotton. He had a strange dream last night, involving Paulette, his favorite hen from the barnyard. He remembers himself standing on her back, while she was sitting on a blue shell, flying over a deep blue seascape. In the dream, he is very impatient to reach the shore as he is very hungry.
Spartacus and Napoleon drag Marshall to the disco. They say he should forget about Paulette, because he deserves only the best. It is true that she was not the most eye-catching one of the barnyard, but she was sincere and caring for him. While sipping a beer at the bar, a pretty hen comes to ask him for a slow dance. In the middle of the song she kisses him on the beak.
Marshall gets the visit of two old friends, Spartacus and Napoleon, who freshly moved to the city center. They used to work together in a barnyard in Shanghai suburb. It’s a great opportunity to try a ramen noodle bar newly opened and enjoy the sunshine on the terrace. They nostalgically remember the pretty hens / colleagues. Marshall is wishing so hard he could meet again Paulette.
Marshall is so scared to take the train, but it is now time for him to go back to Shanghai. It is so crowded today! The jerky ride is noisy, potential attack every second. Luckily he finds some peace standing on dough clay left by some naughty but cute kids, pecking nuts, watching at the landscape scrolling through the window and sun bathing.
It has been raining continuously the last few days. Marshall enjoys very much this weather, looking for adventurous worms. Some of his favorite spots have been recently covered with concrete. After running for a while on the front alley, he finally finds some exquisite cabbage worms in the garden. Yummy!
Marshall goes to the brick factory where he used to play when he was younger. To his great surprise and sorrow the factory has been destroyed. It is cold but sunny, he stands on a pile of bricks to admire the ruins surrounding him. He remembers workers watching him with a lot of surprise and amusement in their eyes.
Marshall is back to his hometown to visit the few relatives that have not been eaten already, and he is very excited to meet new chicks too.
When he wakes up this morning he finds the rests of what seems to have kept him awake most of the night, all over the floor.
Then he goes to see the seasonal vegetables in the garden and finds a beautiful cabbage on which he immediately jumps on, he is very hungry.
